Kinsail Court Park will soon be known as ANZAC Centenary Park, following Australian Government approval of the name change.
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said Council had applied for permission to rename a Cleveland park, across the road from the Redlands Returned Services League (RSL) and Cenotaph, in honour of the centenary of the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli.
“Last week we were delighted to receive approval from the Australian Government Department of Veteran’ Affairs to use the word ANZAC, following our formal request to do so in 2015,” she said.

“In 2015, an estimated 20,000 people came to Cleveland on ANZAC Day to pay their respects at the memorial in this park.
“It is a place that draws residents and visitors from near and far, and the new name ANZAC Centenary Park will embody the special and sacred place it holds in our community.”
Federal Member for Bowman Dr Andrew Laming said renaming the park ANZAC Centenary Park would ensure the significance of this place would be cemented in the minds of all who visited.
“This park hosts Redland City’s key ANZAC commemorations so it is fitting that it be given a name to reflect the bravery and self-sacrifice we all come here to honour,” he said.
“The 2015 park upgrade, supported through an ANZAC Centenary Grant, created the truly moving ANZAC Centenary Memorial.
“Changing Kinsail Court Park to ANZAC Centenary Park ensures the whole precinct reflects the personal sacrifices and service by so many Australians in the name of this nation over the past 100 years.
Redlands RSL President Mr Alan Harcourt said the renaming had their full support.
“Last April we unveiled the new ANZAC Centenary Memorial, a joint project between the RSL, National Servicemen’s Association, Redland City Council and the Australian Government and it has quickly become a community landmark,” Mr Harcourt said.
“This park is so much more than a place where annual ANZAC Day commemorations are held – its popularity continues to grow as a community space were people come each day to honour our servicemen and women.”
