Redland City is ready to tap into the potential economic benefits and exposure the G20 event will bring.

Mayor Karen Williams said when the G20 Leaders’ Summit makes its way to south-east Queensland in mid-November, some of Redlands’ tourism hotspots will be on the G20 tourism ‘to do’ list.

“The G20 will bring around 4000 delegates and 3000 media representatives to our doorstep, so there is enormous potential for international media coverage,” Cr Williams said.

“It is an unmissable opportunity to promote Redlands, particularly to the tourism market.

“We have been working with Tourism and Events Queensland and Brisbane Marketing to develop getaway opportunities for a bush, bay and island experience.”

Cr Williams said Redland City Council will also be taking its tourism message straight to the heart of the G20 action in Brisbane as part of a stand at the G20 Global Café, a meeting space for international and local delegates and media.

“This G20 Global Cafe is a world-first and will be the epicentre for people wanting to come together and share ideas,” she said.

“It is expected thousands of people will visit the Global Cafe over the G20 weekend, providing an opportunity to show the world why the Redlands is the best place to live, play and do business.”

Cr Williams said the Redlands: Bush to Bay and Beyond experience package was a three-day showcase of some of Redlands best tourism offerings.

“The package includes kayaking on Moreton Bay with Redlands Kayak Tours, wine tastings and authentic bush-tucker tours at Redland City Council’s own IndigiScapes Centre,” she said.

“These attractions aren’t just for the G20 delegates, but also the many Brisbane residents looking for somewhere to escape the disruptions and restrictions that come with this event, particularly over the Brisbane long weekend 14 – 17 November 2014.

“The package also includes a stay on North Stradbroke Island that includes a 4WD eco tour showcasing Straddie’s natural beauty including swimming in a freshwater lake, sand boarding, a beach barbeque and plenty of opportunities to see wildlife, including koalas, dolphins and turtles.

“Other activities include snorkelling, learning to surf, hiring a yacht, taking an indigenous cultural tour or just enjoying a meal at one of the many restaurants.”
