Redlands Afterhours Wildlife Ambulance (RAWA) has put an urgent call out for volunteers to help sick, injured and orphaned native animals in the Redlands.

Redland City Council’s environmental spokesperson Cr Lance Hewlett said the service needed new people to put their hand up.

“The rich and diverse wildlife in Redlands is one of the things that make our City so special but sometimes they need our help,” Cr Hewlett said.

“The Redland Afterhours Wildlife Service provides emergency rescue and transport for sick and injured wildlife in Redlands and adjoining areas of the Koala Coast, but relies on volunteers to be successful.

“It is a great community program that is held in high regard by other wildlife organisations and operates on a flexible roster with volunteers on duty one week every five to six weeks.”

“Council is holding its next RAWA induction on 15 November and if you are committed to saving local wildlife and have some time to give, we’d love you to join this passionate team of wildlife volunteers.”

RAWA is coordinated by Redland City Council and operates from 5pm to 8am, with rosters organised with a team of three volunteers on duty for one week in every five to six weeks.

New volunteers are required to attend a one-day induction on Saturday 15 November from 9.30am.

To join the RAWA, you must be 18 years of age and hold a current open or probationary driver’s license.

New volunteers are provided with comprehensive training at the induction and are placed on roster with experienced volunteers.

To join the Redlands Afterhours Wildlife Ambulance, please contact Redlands IndigiScapes Centre on 3824 8611.
