Bloomfield Street Park will become a vibrant centre of community events and activities under upgrades proposed by Council.
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said the concept design, available for the public to review from 7-21 October, echoed community feedback received during recent consultation with key stakeholders.
“We have listened to the community and the concept design includes improved seating and lighting, free WiFi, new trees, a performance stage, power in key locations for events, open grass spaces and refurbished toilets,” Cr Williams said.

“There will also be opportunities for outdoor dining and an enhanced natural amphitheatre.
“The park has been designed to create a flexible, family-friendly, multifunctional meeting space that will attract new people and events to Cleveland Central Business District (CBD), supporting Council’s open for business initiatives.
“Construction is expected to begin early 2015 and Council will work to minimise disruptions for residents, businesses and shoppers.”
Divisional 2 Councillor for Cleveland Craig Ogilvie said the plans include new artistic play equipment to replace the existing play sculpture.
“The sculpture has been a much-loved part of Cleveland but unfortunately it has become unsafe so we will be calling for expressions of interest from local artists for new functional art work,” Cr Ogilvie said.
“It may be that a very similar sculpture is constructed as a result of this process but what we do know is that the artwork will need to also act as play equipment for children.
“The expressions of interest phase provides the opportunity to engage with the Redlands’ dynamic arts community and this process will be happening parallel to the other scheduled park works.
“The end result will be an attractive multi-use park that will play a key role in our ongoing commitment to activate businesses and events in Cleveland.”
