A touch of the old blighty will come to Redlands Performing Arts Centre for the next Citizenship Ceremony on Tuesday 10 June.
The ceremony, which has a British theme marking the Queen’s birthday, will see 132 people become Australian citizens.
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams, who will preside, said citizenship ceremonies were a chance to celebrate the cultural diversity of the Redlands.
“During this ceremony, we welcome new citizens from 26 counties around the world,” she said.
“At the end of the ceremony we will have welcomed 436 new citizens to date in 2014, with each person bringing unique skills, experiences, knowledge and culture to our City.”
Redland City Senior Citizen of the Year Julie Porteous, who emigrated from the United Kingdom and became and Australian citizen in 1985, is guest speaker at the event.
Entertainment includes a Vocal Manoeuvres performance of Sing, written by the United Kingdom’s Gary Barlow and Andrew Lloyd Webber especially for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
51 of the candidates, or 39 per cent, are from the United Kingdom.
New citizens are from: Brazil, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Fiji, Germany, HKSAR of the PRC, India, Iran, Ireland, Kenya, Malaysia, New, Zealand, Scotland, South Africa, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, USA, Vietnam and Wales.
