Residents urged to surrender hazardous waste

Residents are urged to bring unused chemicals and other hazardous wastes to Council’s free Household Hazardous Waste Surrender day on Sunday 4 May.

Redland City Council spokesperson for waste operations Cr Kim-Maree Hardman said common household items and chemicals carried potential serious health and environmental consequences if not stored and disposed of correctly.

“Some of these materials lying around your home could potentially endanger you and your loved ones – so if you aren’t using them, now is the time to dispose of them safely,” Cr Hardman said.

“Hazardous wastes can’t be placed in kerbside collection bins because they may be flammable, corrosive or toxic and may cause  serious environmental and health risks, so Council offers regular free surrender day for residents during the year.”

This event is available to Redland residents only and proof of residency is required. No commercially generated material will be accepted including large quantities of paint. Commercial operators are reminded to comply with relevant waste disposal regulations.
