Observation and art collide in Treasury Garden, a unique view from above by former bayside artist Bruce Reynolds which is now showing at the Redland Art Gallery, Cleveland.
In this exhibition, which will continue to Sunday 11 May, Reynolds offers his insight into the “evolution of urban landscape over time’’.
“Treasury Garden is part of a series of works which are based on observation, often from aerial perspectives and the synthesis of distance and intimacy,’’ Reynolds said.
“They combine photographic imagery with more tangible media to exploit the physical nature of material in concert with pictorial content.’’
Reynolds, who is noted for his major public art commissions at Brisbane Convention Centre, Brisbane Magistrates Courts and Boggo Road Urban Redevelopment, will be conducting a floor talk at a morning tea from 11.30am on Sunday 13 April, alongside Photographic Abstractions exhibiting artist Jacky Redgate.
Redland City Arts, Culture and Innovation spokesman Paul Bishop says Reynolds’ works were particularly thought provoking.
“They also show the evolution of photography as an important art form,’’ Cr Bishop said.
“Bruce Reynolds has delivered a technique of recycling old linoleum and modern images in an extraordinary manner. His perspective demonstrates the incredible capacity for artists to integrate the old and the new into important future design scenarios.
“I am particularly pleased that our gallery continues to raise its credentials by delivering exhibitions by artists of the calibre of Bruce Reynolds, as well as Photographic Abstractions, which is running in conjunction with it. The combination of images and artistry is both fascinating and delightful.’’
Photographic Abstractions, a Monash Gallery of Art travelling exhibition, draws on a collection of works by 33 Australian artists who use photography for the abstract rather than to simply document the world.
