Redland City residents are being urged to prepare for heavy rainfall and possible flash-flooding today with the Bureau of Meteorology expecting large volumes of rain to hit South-East Queensland.

Redland City Local Disaster Coordinator Nick Clarke said Council and Emergency Services organisations had begun preparing for the expected heavy rain.

“The Redland City Local Disaster Management Group has moved to alert status, which means we have begun preparations for today’s heavy rainfall and residents are urged to make their own preparations” he said.

“People should avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters, keep clear of creeks and storm drains and if they require assistance contact the SES on 132 500, for life-threatening emergencies dial Triple Zero (000).”

“Residents should also stay up to date with the latest information through local media channels as well as Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, Bureau of Meteorology and Council website and social media channels (addresses below).

“If they have not already done so, residents should also familiarise themselves with the Red Cross REDiPlan and Council’s Disaster Management Plan, which can be found on Council’s website.”
