The Redlands Wildlife Rescue (RWR) is calling on residents to volunteer to help sick, injured and orphaned native animals in the Redlands.
Redland City Council environmental spokesperson Cr Paul Gleeson said the wildlife service needed volunteers so it could keep delivering valuable services to the Redlands.
“This is a great service that complements the Redlands’ environmental character perfectly, but as a volunteer organisation they need residents’ support,” he said.

“Two different services are available through the RWR, helping sick and injured animals around the clock.
“One task that requires volunteers is answering the phones for the Redlands Wildlife Care Network (RWCN). Volunteers on the phone roster work from home, providing advice to the community about sick, injured and orphaned wildlife and are rostered on for one week every six to eight weeks.
“Residents can also volunteer for the Redlands After-hours Wildlife Ambulance (RAWA), which operates from 5pm to 8am, providing emergency rescue and transport for sick and injured wildlife.”
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said volunteers played a critical role in caring for sick and injured wildlife.
“Anyone interested in volunteering in community activities should consider joining Redlands Wildlife Rescue,” she said.
“Our wildlife volunteers are given support and training to help them in their duties, and aside from the satisfaction of helping animals, it’s also a wonderful opportunity to make new contacts and friends.”
New volunteers must attend an induction at one of the following sessions:
RAWA Saturday 9 March – full day
RAWA Sunday 10 March – full day
RWCN Wednesday 19 March – 3 hrs
