Redland City Council is getting on board with Clubs Queensland to help keep Moreton Bay beautiful.

Mayor Karen Williams said Council was delighted to support the “Cleaning Up the Bay’’ campaign on 1 December, which targets a massive area from Redland Bay to the southern tip of Bribie Island and across to North Stradbroke and Moreton islands.

“I urge Redlanders to spare a few hours, bring a pair a gloves, water and sunscreen, and join a growing army of volunteers to clean up the local shores and waterways of our greatest asset,’’ Cr Williams said.

“The Bay is a huge part of the Redlands lifestyle and economy but its popularity means it can do with a helping hand.

“By simply visiting one of six collection points between 6am and 11am on 1 December and grabbing a bag to fill with rubbish, you will be making a huge contribution to keeping our Bay clean.’’

Council environment, waterways and foreshores spokesman Cr Paul Gleeson said the “Cleaning Up the Bay’’ campaign would significantly support Council’s efforts to improve the health of the Bay and its waterways.

Designated collection points in Redland City are: Wellington Point Recreation Reserve (Main Road), Cleveland Boat Ramp (William Street), Victoria Point (Colburn Avenue), Redland Bay Boat Ramp (Banana Street), Dunwich Boat Ramp (Yabby Street, Stradbroke Island) and Amity Point Boat Ramp (Claytons Road, Stradbroke Island).
