Redland libraries are offering a trio of free literary treats next week.

Redland City Council spokesman for Arts, Culture and Innovation Paul Bishop said the three events were part of council’s busy Authors in Action program and highlighted the
Redlands’ status as a vibrant regional cultural centre.

“On October 15, residents can hear inspirational best-selling author Susan Duncan talk about her writing career and latest book Gone Fishing – the sequel to The Briny Café,” Cr Bishop said.

“This is a heart-warming novel about taking a stand against all the odds. Join Susan at the Cleveland library from 11am–12pm. Bookings can be made by calling 3829 8770.

“On 16 October, you can join celebrated Brisbane author Nick Earls and illustrator Terry Whidborne at Victoria Point library from 1pm-2pm for a look at the War of the Word Hunters, the third book in a mysterious, action-packed series for the word nerd in us all.

“Award-winning Earls is the author of 13 books, including five novels with teenage central characters. Whidborne is recognised as one of Brisbane’s leading award-winning art directors. Bookings can be made by calling 3884 4011.

“Then on October 19, you can get a taste of madcap adventure with steam punk authors Lynne Lumsden Green and Ged Maybury from 1.30pm–3pm at Capalaba Library.

“These colourful characters will talk about the history of the genre, the sub-culture, other Australian steam punk authors and their own works. Bookings on 3843 8010.”

Cr Bishop said these were exciting opportunities to get to know the writers behind the stories.

“It is great for the Redlands that local rising stars as well as some big-name authors use our libraries to connect with local readers,’’ he said.

“Events such as this demonstrate how our libraries are continuing to add value to our community.

“Having direct access to best-selling authors is just another reason to visit your local library.”
