Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds and dangerous surf: Monday 1 July 2.30pm

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued a severe weather warning for Southeast Queensland including North Stradbroke Island.

Damaging winds, with peak gusts of around 90km/h, are expected to develop later this afternoon and persist into Tuesday morning.

Dangerous surf conditions have been observed near Point Lookout, North Stradbroke Island. People are advised to stay away from surf-exposed areas.

Emergency Management Queensland advises that people should:

* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

Sandbags are available from Council’s Cleveland Depot (corner of South and Wellington Streets).

UPDATE – SEVERE WEATHER WARNING CANCELLED: Tuesday 2 July 12.20pm

Earlier this morning, the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) cancelled the severe weather warning for Southeast Queensland. 

Some gusty conditions are still expected about the southeast coast, particularly in showers, but they are no longer likely to be severe. Waves are also easing but they are still powerful and care should still be taken.

Seqwater have advised that minor releases from Leslie Harrison Dam commenced at 10am today and are expected to finish at 7pm tonight. No downstream impacts are anticipated.

Emergency Management Queensland advises that people should:

* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
