Redland City Mayor Karen Williams chaired Council’s first Age-friendly Redlands Committee (ARC) meeting today to discuss current and emerging issues facing seniors in the Redlands.

The Mayor said that the quarterly meeting is a partnership between Redland City Council and the Redlands Seniors Network (RSN) that builds upon the previous work of the Redlands Advisory Group on Seniors Issues (RAGOSI).

“This ARC is a forum for Council and community leaders to share information and consider strategic opportunities to advance Council’s long-standing commitment to the vision of an age-friendly Redland City,” Cr Williams said.

“By collaborating with the RSN, we can ensure that our strategic direction and the initiatives we champion address the real needs of our senior community and in particular support access and inclusion issues.”

ARC includes three elected Council representatives, including the Mayor as chair, Cr Alan Beard and Cr Julie Talty along with three nominated representatives from the RSN.

The committee will provide strategic direction in relation to actions that advance the vision of an age-friendly city. This may include community action through the RSN and its member organisations, Council initiatives under the Ageing Well in the Redlands Strategy and advocacy to other levels of government.
